Security measures boosted in the capital

Due to the violence in the capital city of Kingston, the hotels in the Jamaican region are tightening the security in and around the hotel premises. The recent clashes and violence in the region over the notorious activities of the supporters of a drug lord are causing visitors to cancel their trips and holiday plans.

According to the head of Jamaica’s Hotel and Tourism Association, Wayne Cummings, these recent happenings have caused the visitors to cancel their trips.

Since the Prime Minister Bruce Golding declared an emergency in the region on May 23, there have been 300 cancellations in the hotels on the Caribbean Island. The emergency was declared in order to contain the activities of the gang violence related to government’s efforts to extradite an accused drug lord to US.

In the street battles that followed, more than 44 people were killed. The fights mostly were carried out between police and supporters of Christopher Coke, popularly known as Dudus. Police had been searching him for four days now.

The only relief in the current situation is that the violence and all the notorious activities of the faction had been concentrated in the capital and the adjoining areas had no effect of it whatsoever.

This was a good news for the hotel and resort owners as well as the police who had not much difficulty maintaining the law and order situation in the adjoining areas. Though the visitors are still scared to come to these confines on vacation or holidays.
